Our small corner bed on the front walk welcomes you to our home. April blooms include peonies and azaleas.

Early spring view of antique iron bed of flowers.

This Amethyst oak leaf hydrangea is on the back wall next to stone steps leading to the Secret Garden. It will turn a beautiful berry color and the dried blooms will retain that color well.

Heading back to the secret garden along the rock wall. The grandchildren actually call this garden the “Bunny Bakery,” because they like to put baby bunnies in the miniature conservatory that sits in the birdbath. Read about the Bunny Bakery Garden here.

Robin takes a bath in the new fountain feature. The rocks were quickly taken out of this water feature. I decided I preferred the water splashing into a pool of water.

This pomegranate tree came up as a volunteer plant and has been producing fruit for 20 years! It’s a great conversation piece. It’s not unusual for people to stop by and ask about what kind of tree we have bearing that fruit. You can read more about our pomegranates in Pomegranate Picking Time.

Pomegranate picking season with my helpers.

These old fashioned mums bloom after our other garden mums and extend the colors in the perennial bed near the pomegranate tree. The elephant ears came from small plants at the farmers market that were sold as vegetables.

Souvenir de la Malmaison, Rose Hall of Fame, 1843 rose is one of my favorites. I have it growing in three locations. This queen of fragrance and beauty is easy to propagate. I always want to have one available for bouquets.

Husband gathered all the rock for this parterre garden and we built it together. I have visions of geometric vegetable plantings in this garden after we take care of the nutgrass problem.

This cottage garden has a pink and white theme. Mid April, it’s in full spring flush.

The iron gate, bird bath terrarium, and red ornate iron gate post are among the metal ornaments in this garden.

This wild rose enhances the ornate antique gate.
